PMP 35 Contact Hours Training: What to Check Before Enrolling

A training-hour certificate and exam readiness solve different problems. Choose a course that can document eligible learning and also teaches you to make project decisions. This checklist helps you ask the right questions before paying for a PMP preparation program.

Separate training hours from exam practice

Use formal instruction to build concepts, and use practice questions to find gaps. Reading this website or completing a mock does not by itself create a 35-hour training certificate. A useful course should make its learning objectives, instruction hours, completion rules and evidence explicit.

Ask for the course outline and a sample completion document without another learner’s personal details. Check that the name of the provider on the proposal matches the organisation that will issue the evidence. Keep the syllabus and completion record together so you can explain exactly what you studied.

  • Ask which activities count as instruction and which are optional homework.
  • Confirm how attendance or self-paced completion is recorded.
  • Request the process for correcting a name or completion-date error.
  • Check whether the quoted package includes learning support, practice access and any retake support; do not assume it includes the PMI exam fee.

Live training rules change on 1 December 2026

PMI states that from 1 December 2026, eligible live training must come from a PMI Authorized Training Partner, China REP, or an eligible accredited academic program. Self-paced training remains available from any organisation under PMI’s requirements. Training completed before that date is treated under the preceding rules; check PMI’s current notice for your situation.

This page does not claim that ITCertPath is a PMI Authorized Training Partner. Before booking a live course that you intend to use for eligibility, obtain written confirmation of the actual delivering provider, its qualifying status and how your completion date fits the rule. If those details cannot be established, do not rely on a marketing promise of eligible hours.

What a useful preparation course should help you do

For each lesson, look for a decision you can practise. A stakeholder lesson should help you decide how to repair conflicting expectations; a planning lesson should help you examine a dependency; a governance lesson should make approval authority clear. A list of terminology alone is not enough to judge the usefulness of instruction.

Ask how the course handles a learner who knows predictive delivery but has little adaptive experience, or the reverse. Request a demonstration explanation that compares plausible answers rather than simply revealing a letter. You should leave a session able to explain the conditions under which another answer would become appropriate.

  • People: facilitate a disagreement and agree a communication approach.
  • Process: build a delivery plan, interpret a forecast and inspect quality evidence.
  • Business context: test an assumption, escalate a compliance concern and assess whether expected value still justifies work.
  • Responsible technology: verify AI-assisted output before using it in a project decision.

Send a short enquiry before you enrol

Share your education route, whether you already hold active CAPM certification, completed training, target exam month and time zone. Ask for a written scope covering instruction hours, provider eligibility, attendance, materials, support period and the total price. Share a summary first; do not send identity documents or account credentials over an initial enquiry.

If you already have eligible education, you may need focused preparation rather than another full training course. If you have not checked your experience route, do that before committing to an exam date. PMI, not a training seller, decides application eligibility.
