PMP and CAPM compared
Choose PMP when…
- You meet a current PMI experience route.
- You have led projects and can document your responsibilities and outcomes.
- You want to validate leadership across predictive, agile and hybrid delivery.
- You are prepared for a scenario-heavy professional exam.
Choose CAPM when…
- You do not yet meet PMP’s project-leadership experience requirement.
- You are moving into project coordination, analysis or junior delivery roles.
- You want a structured foundation in project-management concepts.
- You want a credential that can later support your PMP journey.
A simple decision rule
If you already meet PMP eligibility, compare PMP preparation options. If you do not, CAPM can provide a credible foundation while you build real project-leadership experience. Never claim experience you cannot document—PMI may select an application for audit.
